Parsi Punchayet trustee quits following bickering with fellow members

-

Noshir Dadrawala, one of the seven trustees of the Bombay Parsi Punchayet, has quit on Wednesday. Few fellow members say due to an internal bickering a disappointed Dadrawala was forced to take this step.

The proceedings of the BPP meeting were brought to an abrupt end on Tuesday evening after a heated argument broke out between its board members in a meeting. Following which, Dadrawala, on Wednesday, tendered his resignation.

Yazdi Desai, BPP chairman, while speaking to the FPJ, said Dadrawala has not furnished an authentic resignation. “There is a procedure to file a resignation letter which he has not followed. So it might also be a gimmick. But he should reconsider his opinion and work in tandem with the other trustees,” he said, adding, “He has been an asset to the trust considering his expertise. But if he still persists, he can tender proper resignation and we will accept,” he said.

According to Desai, former BPP chairman Dinshaw Mehta had appeared before the board in a matter pertaining to a Bhabha Sanatorium tenancy dispute in which Dadrawala wanted to play judge. But Mehta started cursing the trustees which Dadrawala strongly opposed. "I sought peace in the meeting and asked Dadrawala to stop retaliating. He got upset and stormed out," Desai said.

Dadrawala wrote in an open letter to all the BPP trustees, “I am aware that the scheme of election states that a letter of this nature should be addressed to the chairman. But, sorry that is a position he holds by ‘default’ and not because he deserves it.” Dadrawala, when contacted, refused to comment on the issue.

“I re-contested in 2015 to give my very best one last time with a new team. But, it was a huge mistake on my part. This board is just as bad as the previous one, perhaps much worse! It is beyond redemption,” the letter reads further.
