- STAFF REPORTER /

Rahul Raj Singh, the exboyfriend of late TV actor Pratyusha Banerjee has filed an application before a sessions court seeking discharge from the case pertaining to the deceased actor’s death. Rahul has been accused of abetting suicide of Banerjee.

Banerjee who rose to fame after her brief stint in TV serial Balika Vadhu was found hanging on her home’s ceiling fan on April 1, 2016. Soon after her suicide, her parents registered a criminal case in Bangur Nagar police station naming Singh as an accused. The parents claimed that Singh tortured their daughter because of which she committed suicide. In his application for discharge, Singh has instead blamed Pratyusha’s parents for abetting her suicide. He has claimed that her parents had obtained hefty loans in her name. He has further claimed that Pratyusha, who was jobless at the relevant time, was unable to repay the loans and was under stress.

Singh, who was never arrested in this case owing to the anticipatory bail he secured, has trashed the claims that he tortured his live-in partner. He has instead claimed that he was about to marry Pratyusha in December 2016. He has further claimed that he helped her financially and in fact gave the entire amount he won in a reality show to Pratyusha. In his application filed through advocate Shreyansh Mithare, Singh has mentioned that Pratyusha was depressed because of the ‘interference’ of her parents in her life.
