Hubby arrested for brutal rape and murder of wife

A 34-year-old man raped and murdered his 38-year-old wife on Monday evening, because he suspected her of having an extra-marital affair.

The accused Santosh Shelke (38) inserted an alcohol bottle inside his wife's private parts and strangled her to death. The Shahpur police have arrested Santosh under Section 376 (rape) and Section 302 (murder) of the Indian Penal Code.

On Monday evening, Santosh asked his wife to come along with him for a walk and he took her to a deserted place outside the village. He started beating her up and then raped her. He broke the alcohol bottle which he carried with him and inserted it in to her private parts and stabbed her four times. Later, he checked to see if she is alive or not and strangulated her, using her sari.

Santosh used to work as a labourer but because of his alcohol addiction, he had stopped working. Since his wife wanted to educate her children and improve their life, she started working with a small packaging company located on the Nashik highway. She had been working at the factory for the last four years. According to the Shahpur police, Santosh used to regularly beat her up for working overtime at the factory. On Monday, after a fight over whether she should continue her job or not, her husband decided to kill her.

Mahesh Shetty, Senior Police Inspector, Shahpur police said, “We found the body near a small water pipeline. We identified her and called her family members. During interrogation, Santosh confessed to raping and murdering her.”
