Navy will undertake month-long car rally to motivate youth into joining it

Nearly 10 SUVs will be used in the rally and the defence personnel will be travelling via non-coastal areas of Udaipur, Jaipur, Delhi, Chandigarh and Himachal Pradesh to reach Leh

Indian Navy to undertake month-long car rally from Naval Dock Yard, Mumbai to Army Transit Camp, Patsio in Leh to showcase its achievemen­ts and motivate youth to join the Indian Navy.

The car rally will be flagged off by Vice Admiral Ajendra Bahadur Singh, Chief of Staff, Western Naval Command (WNC) on May 3 in Mumbai and will be covering approximat­ely 5,000 km.

“The initiative has been taken to spread awareness among school/college students regarding the importance and achievemen­ts of naval force,” said Chief Public Relations Officer (CPRO) Commander Mehul Karnik. Nearly 10 SUVs will be used in the rally and the defence personnel will be travelling via non-coastal areas of Udaipur, Jaipur, Delhi, Chandigarh, Himachal Pradesh to reach Leh, and in return the rally will touch Himachal Pradesh, Chandigarh, Delhi, Agra, MP Mhow, Gujarat and Nashik to return Mumbai on June 3.

“Overall 120 defence personnel will be participat­ing in the rally,” said Commander Karnik. Also, 10 Royal Enfield bikes will undertake ride for coastal security to celebrate Golden Jubilee of WNC. In the 21 days bike rally, the naval officers will cover over 6000 km and touch nine coastal states from Jamnagar to Kolkata. Besides this, the WNC is conducting motorcycle expedition in associatio­n with Royal Enfield. The aim of the expedition is to highlight amongst civil population, the need for coastal security.

About 30 naval officers including women officers from Goa Naval Area are participat­ing in the expedition which will pass through the coastal route of Indian Peninsula i.e. from the west coast to east coast of India. The Bikers will be visiting all historical lighthouse­s enroute, which are part of India’s Maritime Heritage.

The motorcycle expedition will be aptly flagged off from Prongs Light House at Mumbai on 05 May 18 by Vice Admiral Girish Luthra, PVSM, AVSM, VSM, ADC the Flag Officer Commanding-inChief, Headquarte­rs Western Naval Command. The expedition is also to instil spirit of adventure amongst naval personnel and develop espirit-decorps.

The Coast riders will be visiting Lighthouse­s at Jaigarh, Vengurla, Fort Aguada, Bhatkal, Kaup, Mt Dilli, Calicut, Cannanore, Alleppy, Kollam, Kovalam, Kanyakumar­i, Pamban, Cuddalore, Kilakarai, Puducherry, Chennai, Ramyapatna­m, Kakinada, Dolphin Nose, Gopalpur, Paradeep, Balasore and Dariapur.

“The entire expedition is divided in five legs and will be completed in 17 days. Four participan­ts will be riding the entire length from Mumbai to Kolkata, while the remaining riders will be participat­ing in various legs. During the ride, the Naval personnel will be sensitisin­g the local population regarding importance of coastal security and their contributi­on towards the same,” said Commander Karnik.
