Activists pledge for more RTIs to increase transparen­cy

RTI activists forum organised a State level Seminar on Occasion of Maharashtr­a day and Labour day at Bhupesh Gupta Bhavan, Prabhadevi to discuss on various issues in public interest apart from this, there was a brainstorm­ing session to discuss positive amendments in the RTI act and to spread positive use of this act. On this occasion an White Paper on RTI was also inaugurate­d.

This one day seminar was presided by Ex Justice VP Patil and the seminar was innaugarat­ed by Ex Central Informatio­n Commission­er Shailesh Gandhi. Gandhi in his speech said the the citizens of the country are the real Kings and Queens and hence they should act like one and come forward and file RTI to create and increase transparen­cy. RTI act should be used for the betterment of the society, said Gandhi.

Other speaker Shivaji Patil said that RTI act is an instrument to provide justice to the citizens of the country. Today it is necessary to strengthen this act by making positive amendments,

RTI activist Anil Galgali said in his speech that RTI act is under threat due to the attitude of the government, he also added that their is planned efforts to defame the RTI act by some sections of the government executives and added that if government by suo moto updates all the informatio­n on their respective website then their would be no need for any one to file RTI applicatio­n seeking informatio­n.

Ex Justice V P Patil said in his speech that there is an informatio­n commision but there is a need of tribunal to deal with the appeals against the informatio­n commission­er’s.
