38-year-old man is arrested by Deonar police for molesting a married lady

MUMBAI: A 38-year-old man was arrested by the Deonar police on Thursday for molesting and sexually harassing a 30-year-old married lady. The incident occurred on May 9 at 6:30 pm, while the lady was walking near Kobra Hotel, at Deonar. The accused Sameer Burondkar (38) has been arrested by the police. As per the lady’s complaint to the police, the accused Sameer had troubled her on several occasions. The accused started eve-teasing her, calling her names and abused her in filthy language. He also approached the lady and touched her inappropriately, and as she started shouting for help the accused escaped from the spot. Later, she confided to her brothers Tausif Ansari and Taheer Khan about the harassment. When her brother Tausif approached the accused Sameer, he along with his three other friends attacked Tauseef with a blade and fled from the spot. Tausif has sustained injuries and he is presently treated at Shatabdi hospital at Govandi. Dattatray Shinde, SPI, Deonar police said, “Sameer Burondkar has been arrested. However his friends who have not been identified as yet are presently absconding.” An FIR has been registered for assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty (Section 354), stalking (Section 354 (D)), sexual harassment (Section 354 (A)) word, gesture or act intended to insult the modesty of a woman (Section 509), punishment for voluntarily causing hurt (Section 323), voluntarily causing hurt by dangerous weapons or means (Section 324) and common intention (Section 34) of the IPC. - Staff Reporter
