17L Class X kids take aptitude test, commerce is the top pick

- STAFF REPORTER

Over 17.36 lakh students of Class 10 appeared for Kal Chachani which is survey test to check their field of interests and career choices. Majority of students are interested in the Commerce field as per this year's survey conducted by the state education ministry.

This test enables students to figure out their inclination towards various fields like Arts, Commerce, Technical, Health Sciences, Uniformed Services, Agriculture and Fine Arts. Students had to answer 140 multiple choice questions to find out their interests of learning. Students of various districts of Maharashtra like Mumbai, Nagpur, Kolhapur, Amravati, Aurangabad, Pune and others appeared for this test.

Students claimed though

this test has given them guidance it will not help them to decide their careers. Rohit Bhadricha, a student said, "I want to become a Chartered Accountant (CA) and want to study Commerce course. But this survey showed that my inclination is towards Technical field. It has confused me but I will not change my decision and pursue

Commerce." While Kirti Jain, another student said, "I want to pursue Arts as I am interested in creative fine arts. But this survey has showed my inclination towards Commerce field. Though this survey is helpful as a guide I do not want to change my decision and prefer to stick to my plan."

On the other hand, the state education ministry

claimed this survey will help students figure out their interests, academic inclination and help decide career path. Vinod Tawde, state education minister of school and higher secondary education, said, "We aim to help students by helping them acknowledge their field of interests. Students can pursue what they want and this survey can help make them choices." Maharashtra is the first state of India to have conducted this Kal Chachani survey which was introduced by government of India in 2016 as per the ministry.

Last year, the inclination of students was more towards Arts but this year it is towards Commerce as per the survey. A teacher said, "Large number of students are clueless about what to do after Class 10 and any kind of study will them introspect. It will help students to decide what they want to do, find out where their own interest lies and pursue a career of their choice rather than doing what their parents, relatives or teachers tell them to do. It will also help students not give in to peer pressure but decide a career path on individual basis.”
