Postponement of MU Law exams will affect students
Students of Bachelor of Law (LLB) course will have to wait as their semester exams have been postponed to next month by Mumbai University (MU). This demand had been made by students but the postponement of exams will affect them since the results will be announced late, and this will further delay their admission process.
12 exams of Law course have been postponed by the university from mid-May to end of May and June. The university postponed these exams since students had demanded a change of dates as they had not received their results of a few last winter semester exams. The results are pending as the university has not completed the assessment of answer scripts due to lack of number of teachers.
Students claimed they cannot appear for semester exams when they have not received the results of the previous semester. Avinash Mohite, a student, said, “We cannot appear for the exam unless we know that we have passed in our previous semester.” While, Rashmi Oza, Head of Department of Law of MU said, “A large number of teachers of Law course are practising lawyers who cannot dedicate their entire time for paper correction and hence assessment is pending.”
But this postponement will adversely affect students for if their exams are conducted in June instead of May, their results will be announced around July, which will clash with the admission process for the master’s programme. Also, the entrance test for Master of Law (LLM) will be conducted on June 15 which again will clash with the semester exams, as per the new dates.
The university claimed that one postponement will certainly affect the academic calendar. A senior MU official said, “If exams are postponed, it will further delay announcement of results which will automatically affect admissions to further courses and applications for jobs. Students have asked for this postponement and now they will have to bear the repercussions of the same.”
The university assured that they will allow students to appear for entrance tests for LLM and consider their applications if the results are delayed.
Oza added, “The entrance exam is just a one hour test and students can manage it. We will consider admissions of students if results are delayed.” Over 500 students have registered for LLM entrance tests till now.
