MBMC plans E-classrooms in municipality-run schools

After drawing flak for the failure in providing proper computer education to students, the Mira Bhayandar Municipal Corporation (MBMC) is busy doing its homework for the introduction of internet-based virtual classrooms in the civicrun schools.

In a bid to provide a quality learning experience to students, MBMC’s standing committee chairman Dhruv Kishor Patil has chalked out an elaborate plan to introduce virtual classroom facilities in all the civic operated schools in the twin-city.

There are 17 MBMC owned buildings which house 35 schools which impart education in Marathi, Urdu, Hindi, Gujarati and semi-English mode up to VII standard to around 8,000 children which includes nearly 3,00 girl students.

“The virtual classroom system will involve audio-visual presentations on projectors armed with laser and LED technology for the students to ensure quality interactive learning process for our students,” said Patil who hopes to make the system operational in the upcoming academic session, by launching the e-learning project with the introduction of at least one virtual class-room in each school.

“We have already earmarked financial resources for the project and in addition corporator allocated funds will be pumped-in if need arises. Apart from attracting the students, the system will also overcome the shortage of good teachers in the civic schools,” said Patil.

The MBMC is fine tuning the modalities of appointing an experienced agency to handle the ambitious elearning project.
