LOTUS BLOOMS

- TRIPTI NATH

Prime Minister Narendra Modi warned against divisive politics, electoral malpractices and undemocratic ways in his Karnataka victory speech past sundown at the BJP party headquarters in the national Capital on Tuesday. He also assured the people of Karnataka that BJP will work with them closely in their journey towards development.

Modi said that while he is delighted by the BJP’s performance in Karanataka, he is deeply saddened by the loss of lives in a highway accident in his constituency in Varanasi and has instructed the UP Chief Minister to take all possible measures to ensure that the victims and their families get all relief and assistance.

Attacking the grand old party of India without naming it, the Prime Minister said, “We were projected as a party of north India and such lies were spread but the election results have proved that we are not a party of north India alone. Nobody had thought that this party which ruled India for so many years would harm India’s Constitution, India’s federal structure, instigate fight between North and South, create rift between the Centre and States, only for the sake of electoral interests. This is the party that has produced great leaders. “Elections will come and go. Victory and defeat also goes on.”

He however clarified that he is not attacking any political party but is voicing concern for protecting democracy.

Modi said, “Today, the country can feel proud that the Bharatiya Janata Party is a party dedicated to democracy and is trying to strengthen to democracy. We are a party that will fulfil the dream of ‘Ek Bharat, Shrestha Bharat’ (One India, Best India)

“This election has inspired me a lot. I have toured the length and breadth of the cadres by offering a hundred salutes to them and appreciated the hard work of party workers in Karnataka. He also had a word of praise for the hard work put in by BJP National President, Amit Shah, which had yielded a chain of victories. “The fragrance of the sweat and toil of the workers helps the lotus bloom,” he said amid loud cheers.

He drew attention to undemocratic practices in the Panchayat elections in Bengal where party workers different parts of India and journalists camped in the new BJP party headquarters, walking distance from Connaught Place, to monitor election trends.

Senior party leaders and ministers including Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, HRD Minister, Prakash Javdekar and Information and Broadcasting Minister, Col Rajyvardhan Rahore too made an appearance in the party office.
