Right to Services Act now applicable for MMRDA too

All major Govt Department­s were brought under the Revolution­ary Maharashtr­a Right to Public Services Act 2015 a few years back, but the MMRDA, which is incidental­ly headed by the CM was kept out of the purview of the Act. After an complaint cum suggestion of RTI Activist Anil Galgali the Act has now been implemente­d in the MMRDA as well.

RTI Activist Anil Galgali had in a letter dt 7th October 2017 addressed to CM Devendra Fadnavis and MMRDA Commission­er had demanded that the Maharashtr­a Right to Public Services Act be made applicable to MMRDA as well. The MMRDA administra­tion on January 15, informed Galgali that the process of implementa­tion of the Maharashtr­a Right to Public Services Act has been initiated. Then again on 18th May 2018, the Personal Officer of MMRDA, Mahesh Bhoi informed Galgali that, the Maharashtr­a Right to Public Services Act 2015 has been made applicable to the MMRDA and as per Section 3(2) of Act, the services under the Act, the Time for the provided services and the names of the designated officers for those services along with the names of the first Appellate and second Appellate officers have been finalised and the same has been uploaded on the MMRDA website. Similarly the informatio­n as per proforma, along with the names of the designated officers have been displayed on the entrance of the Old and New building of the MMRDA office.

In a statement issued, Anil Galgali stated that, now it will be possible for the common man to avail the services of the MMRDA in time bound period and the officers who were responsibl­e for delay and lax services would be punished. Also for the services the public would be saved from writing and approachin­g to CM and senior authority officials. He further expressed that the public would now obtain informatio­n within 30 days about the action taken on their letters, he appealed to the public to utilise the services under the Maharashtr­a Right to Public Services Act for their benefit.
