CONGRESS FOCUSES ON FOUR YEARS OF ‘BETRAYAL’ BY MODI GOVT

-

Even as the Bharatiya Janata Party celebrates completion of its four years of government on May 26, the Congress is organising the "Vishwasghaat Diwas" (Betrayal Day) on that day across the country in every state and district capital to stand with the people betrayed on every count since Prime Minister Modi came to power.

Congress general secretary Ashok Gehlot on Wednesday released a poster titled "Vishwasghaat – Char saal mein sirf baat hi baat" (Only empty talks in all four years) in Hindi and "India Betrayed" in English as the theme, declaring a year-long movement by the Congress along with the like minded parties to oust the fascist government in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections.

The theme was chosen to highlight how every section of the society has been betrayed in the last four years, be they farmers, youth, women, traders or Scheduled Castes and Schedule Tribes and the government is trying to cover up failure of its numerous announcements by launching "Jashna" (celebration), Gehlot and Congress communication chief Randeep Singh Surjewala said in a media briefing at the AICC headquarters.

There will be demonstrations, dharnas and press conferences by the Congress leaders in every state and district headquarters to send out a message to the oppressed people that the Congress is with them in the fight to get them rid of the BJP and the RSS today dictating every aspect of their life.

Gehlot said everyone in the country suffers from a sense of fear and mistrust as they cannot even raise voice on their broken trust. "Even the media is under pressure. We know that. But our hope rises from the role the media played in the Karnataka crisis despite the pressure," he said, pointing out how the media has to fight the oppressive government not only at the Centre but also in the BJP-ruled states.

He also hit at the government for spending over Rs 25,000 crore on celebrating its anniversary and giving big advertisements in newspapers, forgetting that it is the trusty of the people's money and it can not spend it for own propaganda.
