- STAFF REPORTER

A 21-year-old employee of a private bank succumbed to grave injuries she sustained on May 23, while cycling at the Sanjay Gandhi National Park (SNGP), Borivali. The police said the deceased Shipra had gone to SNGP to have fun with her four friends.

The police said there was some mechanical failure in her bicycle while she was going downhill. “She had recently learnt cycling and had gone to SNGP with her friends. The group of friends were cycling in the evening. When they reached the slope, Shipra lost balance, fell down and suffered serious head injuries. Her friends, with the help of a passer-by, rushed her to nearby hospital for immediate medical aid. She died on May 23,” said senior inspector Satish Raorane of Kasturba Marg police station.

The police have recorded the statements of Shipra’s friends and the man who drove her to a private hospital. “We have registered an Accidental Death Report ,” he said.

Shipra was living with her relatives in Dahisar (east) and was very ambitious. Her relatives alleged that she died due to the negligence of private hospital that has allegedly inflated the medical bill.

“A good samaritan, who was driving his car with his family on-board, took my sister to the private hospital. We were asked to pay Rs 2 lakh. But we could deposit only Rs 30,000 and told the hospital management that next day we would pay the rest of the amount. As promised we reached hospital with the outstanding amount.
