All political parties, including the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), Congress, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Peasants and Workers Party (PWP), Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) and Maharashtra Swabhiman Party (MSP) of Rane came together against Shiv Sena in Konkan biennial election which resulted defeat of Sena candidate Rajeev Sabale against NCP candidate Aniket Tatkare with the margin of 314 votes. Konkan is a Shiv Sena bastion and its defeat in local authority constituency is said to have alarmed Sena and its minister Anant Geete.

Aniket secured 620 out of total 926 valid votes. Whereas, Sabale secured 306 votes. Raigad, Ratnagiri and Sindhudurg is the boundary of Konkan local authority constituency. Narayan Rane, Member of Rajya Sabha and chief of MSP has very good relation with Sunil Tatakre, father of the winning candidate and former state president of NCP and hence, all of Rane’s votes went in favour of Tatkare.

According to a NCP insider, Tatkare secured 150 votes of BJP, 100 of Rane supporters, 100 from PWP, 5 of MNS, 183 of NCP and more than 60 votes from Shiv Sena. “Sena councillors are unhappy

with the working style of union Sena minister Anant Geete and they have cross voted for the NCP candidate,” the source claimed.

Uddhav Thackeray, Sena president reacted on result and said it shows how the government is shielding accused of irrigation scam. His finger was towards Sunil Tatkare whose son won the MLC poll. “All political parties came together to defeat Sena candidate. Was it BJP’s official stand to defeat Sena or all BJP voters had cross voted against Sena candidate?” Thackeray asked.
