Thane cluster development plan has taken a new debate before its implementation. The opposition party already had blamed about the plan being violating the rules, the ruling party has also expressed the similar concern. Now its citizen are stepping on the roads to save their locality from the clutches of modern plan. Fishermen and villagers of the city came together to demand exclusion of their localities from this ambitious project of the corporation.

They staged a march to the corporation’s office to express their opposition on Thursday near in Thane.

The fishermen had warned the civic body that they will not let the city be another Mumbai, where the entire ancient culture has been vanished by tall towers and concrete jungle. The major concern of the community is of losing their culture which they are proud of and have conserved it till date.

“We the fisherman and people who live in villages of this town have been conserving the age old culture. People from outside do come and visit our proud culture. We live in bigger houses, the cluster plan is to just pack us in small pockets and we are not agrree to it. The Mughals ,the British dynasties tried to finish us, but we fought for our rights and will fight now as well,” said, Sagar Patil, a resident from fishermen colony.

Cluster is for the people who live in slums and not for the people who has been traditionally living on any particular land. The plan expects the people to fit the families in 323 square feet area. If anyone needs more area, they will have to pay more amount for it, which is not acceptable, blamed the agitators.
