Minor boy detained from Surat under POCSO Act

- STAFF REPORTER

A 17-year-old boy, son of a businessman from Surat, was detained by Khar police for creating fake Facebook profiles of a minor girl, who lives with her parents in Bandra (west), and uploading her nude pictures on social media. He was later released on personal bond on Sunday.

The police said the duo became friends on Instagram where they chatted with each other for several weeks before sharing their nude pictures in private chat room.

“The boy had sent her friend request on Instagram. They did not know each other but the girl accepted his friend request and the duo started to chat and shared their cellphone numbers. After few days, they began to share their semi-nude pictures in the private chat room of Instagram. Later, the boy demanded sexual favour from the girl who denied and blocked him on the social media,” said an officer attached to Khar police station.

In the fit of rage, the boy created her fake account on Facebook where he uploaded her nude photographs and tagged her relatives, confirmed senior inspector of Khar police station Ramchandra Jadhav.

She had blocked him on the Facebook but he kept making her fake accounts on social networking site. On May 25, she informed her parents who reached Khar police station and registered First Information Report (FIR) against the boy. “Based on the technical evidence, we detained the boy from Surat and brought him to Mumbai on Saturday night. Later, he was released on personal bond,” Jadhav said.

The police said boy’s social media accounts have been suspended. He has been booked under the relevant sections of IPC, IT Act, and provisions of Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
