MHADA to redevelop 122 BDD chawls in Worli
The Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Authority (MHADA) on Thursday allotted the tender to the Tata-led consortium for redevelopment of the Bombay Development Directorate (BDD) chawl.
At least 122 BDD chawls, located in Worli, will be redeveloped under this project. The authority had received bids from three consortiums for the project.
The plan involves redevelopment of 122 BDD chawls in Worli, for which the project cost is estimated at Rs 10,700 crore.
On Wednesday, the authority received the lowest bid from a consortium comprising Tata Projects Limited and Capacite Infraprojects.
The officials said the third bidder, a Chinese firm, was unable to pass the security clearance by the central government.
The Tata-led consortium quoted the lowest price, at Rs 49, 617 per square metre, while the remaining two consortiums, led by Arabian Construction Company Limited and ACC quoted Rs 53,810 per square metre.
"The project will be undertaken in at least eight phases and be completed in less than a decade," added the official.
Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis had launched the redevelopment plan of the British era BDD chawl on April 22, 2017.
Several developers have been eyeing this project as it would create a massive housing stock at a prime location in Mumbai. A fourth bidder had showed interest in the project after the Tata firm was finalised, but it couldn't win the bid.
