Cops look out for Navy deserter who played real-life Ricky Bahl
A manhunt has been launched by the Thane (rural) police to nab a Casanova conman who absconded after his release on personal bond by the lower court.
Interestingly, the accused, identified as Sanjay Dattatray Adsul, managed to secure his release on a fake name which he had used to dupe his targets.
Sanjay has emerged as the real-life example of Ranveer Singh’s character in the movie ‘Ladies vs Ricky Bahl by cheating more than 50 women from different state using fake profiles on matrimonial sites and defrauding them of lakhs of rupees.
The accused, who used multiple aliases on matrimonial platforms, had first landed into the custody of the Kashimira police in November, 2015, with the help of a woman who was duped of Rs 24 lakh. The woman got suspicious and registered a complaint with the police, following which Sanjay was nabbed from a lodge in Kashimira.
After accusations of sloppy investigations, the case was handed over to the crime unit led by Police Inspector Rajendra Kamble, who filed a 800-page supplementary charge sheet last year against the accused who after spending nearly 2-years in jail and was released on a personal bond in January, 2018. Since then he is untraceable, even as the court has now issued a non-bailable warrant against him.
“After scanning his chat history, emails and matrimonial profiles, it appeared that Sanjay who is a native of Sindhudurg, has targeted more than 50 women from different states and has also married some of them.
However, only a few came forward to testify against him. A manhunt has been launched to apprehend him,” said Kamble.
Investigations had revealed that Sanjay was labelled a “deserter” after he fled from the Indian Navy, a couple of years back.
Posing as an undercover security officer on national duty, he targeted women and squeeze money from them by promising marriage.
