Bhayandar resident duped with fake railway ticket

- SURESH GOLANI

In yet another case of rail ticketing fraud, a civic contractor from Bhayandar, Ajay Vishwakarm (31), fell pretty to a new trick conmen have been pulling off this summer.

Vishwakarma not only paid the tout Rs 5,000 for two third berths worth Rs 3,440, but also ended up getting a fake ticket.

Vishwakarma wanted a confirmed ticket to Varanasi Junction, but the long waiting list drove him to a tout via a reputed search engine. Identifying himself as Fareed, the tout promised a confirmed ticket on the Mahanagri Express if he was paid an extra Rs 1,560 on the cost of the ticket, this with an assured free home delivery.

As promised, an unidentified person met Vishwakarma and handed over an eticket after accepting Rs 5,000. However, the ticket turned out to be fake.

“When checked the PNR status was found to be flushed or not generated. I tried to contact the agent but his phone remained unreachable, suspecting something fishy, I immediately informed the local police station about the incident,” said Vishwakarma.

“We are in receipt of the complaint and efforts were on to trace the culprits on the virtue of the mobile numbers which they used to dupe the ticket seeker. CCTV footages will be scanned to ascertain the identity of the person who had come to accept the money and deliver the fake ticket,” said Sr PI Ram Bhalsingh.
