We all need an umbrella…

It can be a true reflection of our life and an object worth learning a lesson from

- Sumeet Naik

Much-awaited monsoon is just round the corner and colourful umbrellas are seen making their presence felt everywhere. But have we ever given a thought towards the noble deed that an umbrella does to us. So often we must have used the phrase ‘under one umbrella’ meaning united under one roof or shelter. A symbol of unification and sense of feeling protected.

An umbrella protects us from heat as well as rains, just as our parents protect us from any harm caused by others. When a person has an umbrella and sees his or her friend not carrying one when it is pouring heavily, the person brings his friend under the protection of the umbrella. Just as a joint family does, stays under one roof and helps one another.

Many a times we come across a problem of umbrella not opening properly or getting stuck in between. It gets jammed due to frequent closing or opening or not using it for a longer time. Just the way in any family there are differences of opinion and small fights whereby one member does not talk to the other for a few days or weeks and children leave their parents and move out of the family for greener pastures. It jams up the relationships for a while, just as in the case of an umbrella.

Just as we oil the umbrella to get it back into action, we need to oil our relationships too with love and affection. Differences and misunderstandings can be sorted out by talking, and distances can be reduced by sharing some quality time with our near and dear ones.

Many a times our umbrella gets stolen or we tend to forget it somewhere, just as we lose our peace of mind and we feel lost rest of the day. But when we return under the protective roof with friends and family members around us, we feel back to normal.

Seeing new umbrellas into the market every rainy season, you feel like discarding the old one. But a thought of stormy journey spent together and the protection you experienced from that umbrella your heart feels heavy discarding it. Just the way at times, we come to a point where we feel like going somewhere far off, never to return. We feel we have wasted our lives on others or on actions that meant nothing at all in current context. But the memories of some wonderful moments spent together as family hold you back from turning your back upon everyone.

I’m sure, next time you hold an umbrella, you shall see it in a different perspective. It has protected us from the sun and rain, but is has also taught us so much. So, folks what are you waiting for...enjoy the monsoon (life), but keep an umbrella (family) handy!
