11-year-old girl is electrocuted
As pre-monsoon showers lashed the city on Saturday, a pall of gloom descended on Sandstone Complex, after an 11-year-old died of electrocution. Another child -- Shradha Surendra Kanojia (12) -sustained burn injuries and has been admitted to a private hospital, where her condition is said to be stable. Two other kids who also suffered a jolt were fortunate to escape unhurt.
The suffered the shocks after coming into contact with an iron gate while playing in the garden of their plush residential society in Mira Road.
The 11-year-old girl who died was identified as Shruti Ram Yadav.
The incident was reported at around 9 pm when the children came into contact of the gate while playing in the garden, police said. While the exact cause is yet to be ascertained, it is suspected that current from exposed wires ran through the gate of the garden. Some residents thronged the Mira
Road police station late in the night, seeking action against those responsible for negligence and blaming poor maintenance which had led to the tragedy.
However, no official complaint in this context had been filed so far by the grief struck parents of the deceased girl who was a Standard V student.
“Investigations are on as to how the current passed through the iron-gate and a report from engineers of the Public Works Department is awaited.
Amid allegations of negligence, a blame game has erupted in the 323-flat society. Technicians from the power service provider inspected the spot on Sunday morning. As of now, a case of accidental death has been registered.
