IIT-B ranks 162nd in world varsity rankings

IIT-B has moved up 17 places as it ranked 179, last year. The institute has ranked first in India, with an overall score of 48.2 out of 100.

MUMBAI: Among the various universiti­es from across the world, the Indian Institute of Technology Bombay (IIT-Bombay) has secured the 162nd rank this year in the Quacquarel­li Symonds (QS) World University Rankings. Three Indian universiti­es feature in the top 200 universiti­es of the QS World University rankings including Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay (IIT-B), Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bangalore and IIT-Delhi.

IIT-B has moved up 17 places as it ranked 179, last year, while this year it is ranked at 162. The results were released on Wednesday by QS, a British company which links achievers, graduates and executive communitie­s around the world with business schools, postgradua­te department­s at universiti­es through events, eguides and technical solutions.

IIT-B ranks first in India, with an overall score of 48.2 out of 100. The institute has a score of 52.5 of academic repute, 72.9 in employer reputation, 54.1 in citation per faculty, 43.3 in faculty student ratio, 4.4 in internatio­nal faculty and 1.8 in internatio­nal students, all scores out of a maximum of 100 points. Among these six parameters, employer reputation is the strongest one for IIT-B with a rank of 93 globally.

Authoritie­s of IIT-B claimed they are overwhelme­d with the improvemen­t in ranking. Devang Khakhar, Director of IIT-B, said, “The faculty and students are striving to excel in education and research. The increase in rank is a reflection of continuous improvemen­t in all spheres of our activity.”
