Students overcome all odds to perform well in SSC

- STAFF REPORTER

Students have performed well in Secondary School certificate (SSC) board examination facing all odds. Over 816 schools of Mumbai have secured 100 per cent results which has led to an improvement in the performance.

Students with physical, psychological and special needs have secured high scores despite various challenges. Siddhesh Katkar, a student who scored 81.20 per cent said, “My brother helped me to study and he read out my lessons to me and explained everything in detail. I have Learning Disability (LD) due to which I take more time to read, learn and memorise my lessons. I had prepared a timetable and my brother would help me study everyday according to it. My family helped me a lot to give my best. I want to pursue Engineering ahead.”

Families of students with special needs are a big support and reason behind the success of students according to parents. Vandana Gangurde, mother of Harsh who is suffering from Autism Spectrum disorder said, “My son has scored 77.80 per cent and I am very proud of him. We got to know of his condition from his school and then I tried to help him everyday with his studies. I would explain various lessons in simple language and help him socialise with friends so that he gains confidence.”

Around 7,805 students with special needs appeared for SSC board examination, out of which 6,780 students cleared the examination this year. A principal of a school said, “The performance of students has improved this year as large number of schools have secured 100 per cent results. We had instructed our teachers and students to help other students who need help and guidance in various areas.”
