Lightning kills fisherman, injures 6 in Bhayandar

A sixty-year-old fisherman died after being struck by lightning at the seashore in a small village in the coastal belt of Uttan near Bhayandar early Saturday morning.

Six others were also injured due to lightning which struck the region amidst thundersto­rm.

According to the police the incident was reported from Patan Bunder village at around 6:30 am, when the deceased, identified as Stanny Admani, had gone to check his fishing accessorie­s and equipment in the boat which had been anchored on the seashore owing to the monsoon fishing ban.

Stanny succumbed to injuries on way to a hospital in Bhayandar. Six others who were also present in the vicinity to answer the natures call sustained minor injuries.

The injured were rushed to a nearby hospital, and were allowed to go home after treatment. A couple of injured persons had lost their hearing capacity which they regained almost two hours after lightning struck them.

After conducting a post-mortem at the civic hospital in Bhayandar, the police handed over the body of the deceased to his family members.

A pall of gloom descended in the coastal area following the tragic incident, even as several houses were reportedly hit due to the lightning.
