Lankan Buddhist monk arrested for killing policeman

COLOMBO: A Buddhist monk in Sri Lanka was on Wednesday held for allegedly killing a policeman who had come to arrest him in connection with a sexual abuse case, police said. The policeman, 53, had gone to arrest the monk, 37, in the southeaste­rn Ratnapura region's Galanda Temple after he evaded summons to appear in court related to the case, they said.The monk, identified as Konwalane Dhammasara Thera, lived alone in the temple strangled the unarmed police sergeant with his bare hands and stabbed him with a knife, a police officer said.
