Thane civic chief gets down and dirty, helps fill potholes

The Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC) has been jolted into action after five fatalities due to potholes have occurred in Kalyan. On Tuesday, civic chief Sanjeev Jaiswal hit the roads with his team to fill potholes on the city’s roads. He has also announced that every Tuesday, officials will be on the road, conducting a janata darbar of sorts to address residents’ civic woes this monsoon. As the civic authority got down to repair the roads, various organisations arranged the agitations in various styles across the city.

Accompanied by a team of 300 engineers, 1,000 workers, 60 dumpers, and 30 JCB machines, Jaiswal alit on the road to inspect potholes and also filled 750 square metres of potholes. “The road conditions are not that bad. It has rained heavily for the last ten days and therefore, there are some potholes. Potholes have formed wherever paver blocks have been removed. Wherever cable work is on, potholes are created. We have filled several potholes today and the work will continue,” assured Jaiswal.

The inspection round began from Patlipada and potholes on Waghbil, Khopat, Station Road, Meenaatai Thakre Chowk, Saket and Kalwa roads were filled with the new technique. 750 square metres of potholes were filled with readymix concrete, 400 square metres of potholes with paver blocks while 500 square metres of potholes were filled using gravel.

Branches fallen from trees were removed during the inspection and sent to the workshop to make bricks from the wood.
