Beggar kills man in Navi Mumbai

- STAFF REPORTER /

Enraged that strays were getting freshly-cooked meals while he was getting stale food, a 35-year-old beggar killed a 52-year-old man on Thursday at Bonsari village, Turbhe Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC). Police arrested Dhan Kumar Dhyanbahadur Rai, 35, by Turbhe MIDC police on Thursday for the murder of 52-year-old Sharyu Prasad Dwarka Prasad Mishra. The reason for the murder -- the beggar got stale food from the deceased, while dogs on the street were being fed freshly cooked meals.

Police said Rai had observed that every time he begged for food, he was offered stale food, while the street dogs would be fed fresh chapattis. It angered Rai that he was treated worse than street dogs. On Thursday morning, when it happened again, Rai whipped out a knife and stabbed Mishra to death.

According to Amar Desai, senior police inspector, Turbhe MIDC,“During interrogation, Rai revealed that he felt belittled on being served stale food while the stray dogs were being fed fresh meals. We had received information from a local about a body being found. We identified the body and arrested the accused Rai within two hours of the murder.” According to police, the accused had severed ties with his family members. He used to sell scrap to purchase food and would beg for money and food while the deceased worked as watchman at a building construction site.

Rai has been arrested for murder (Section 302) of the IPC. The deceased is survived by his brother Rajesh Dwarka Prasad Mishra, 36, who works as a driver.
