62 STUDENTS OF Ismail Yusuf college pass after re-exam

- AYESHA SHAIKH /

Sixty-two of 154 Science students from the Ismail Yusuf College at Jogeshwari, who were allowed to retake their practical examinations after they claimed the college failed to submit their internal exam scores to the HSC Board, have passed. When the college refused to consider the students' complaint, agitated students and their parents approached the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad(ABVP). On July 4, ABVP staged a protest for these students outside the campus of Ismail Yusuf College. When this measure failed to work, ABVP president Vithal Parab went to Mantralaya with the students and parents. Since Education Minister Vinod Tawde was unavailable, they met Higher and Secondary Education Board officer Shripad Dhakane, who came to their assistance. Earlier, on June 23, Tawde had called the students to Mantralaya and said, “Instructions have been given to the education board officials to reconsider the students' practical examination. In the next two to three days, students will be given official information."

On July 10 a notice was sent to Ismail Yusuf College instructing it to conduct re-examination of the 154 students. The examination was held in Bhavan's College, Andheri, in which 62 students passed. .

Pratiksha Mahadik, 17, a student of Ismail Yusuf College told The Free Press Journal, “I am grateful to our education minister Vinod Tawde and the ABVP, for this was the first time re-examination for practical exams took place. It was the efforts of ABVP and Vinod Sir’s unique decision that saved us from failure. Where I had scored a mere 6/30 in Physics practicals, after re-examination, I secured 28/30.”
