Transferring IAS officers impacts development, vision: KDMC Mayor
To develop the Kalyan-Dombivli region, there is a need to put an end to the transfer of IAS and other officers, said Kalyan-Dombivli Municipal Corporation (KDMC) Mayor Vineeta Rane. She was talking to journalists at the office of Navshakti, a sister publication of The Free Press Journal.
Rane said, “For the KalyanDombivli region to develop, there is a need to stop transfer of officers. Officers are transferred from the region in less than a year. Such transfers impact the development and vision for the region.”
Vineeta was accompanied by her husband, Vishwanath Rane, a three-time corporator from Dombivli. Vishwanath Rane said these officers need to understand the region before beginning work and by then, they are transferred and no work gets done. Recalling the journey of Thane and the role of the late Shiv Sena supremo Balasaheb Thackeray then, Vishwanath said, “In case of Thane, Balasaheb Thackeray sided with the officers in Thane and ordered MLAs to stop being a hurdle in the development of Thane.”
Commenting on the longpending decision to carve out 27 villages from KDMC, Rane said, “We are requesting them to stay with us. There is no clarity yet.
For lack of clarity, people in the region are not paying their taxes.” The region has also seen illegal encroachments. The authority plans action against these illegal encroachments too. Other major concerns for KalyanDombivli are the potholed roads and dumping grounds. Five people lost their lives and a civic staffer was injured in road mishaps caused due to potholes on Kalyan's roads. Mayor Rane assured that 50 per cent of potholes had been filled and from next year, the corporation would plan in advance. She said the contractors had been doing a shoddy job and this had led to these potholes becoming death traps.
Rane feels dumping grounds must go and instead, waste disposal plants must be set up across the country. “KDMC's scientific waste disposal plant will be up and working in the next six months,” she said.
The only way forward for KDMC would be receiving the Rs 6,500 crore package under the Smart City Project as announced by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, stated Rane.
Corporator Vishwanath Rane said that cluster development would be a solution to the region's problems. “We are handicapped without funds.” With the implementation of the Goods & Services Tax, the dent in funds has increased further, added Rane.
