Potholes surface on road next to superstar’s house

- STAFF REPORTER

It's not just the aam aadmi's roads that are plagued with potholes, even the city's celebrities must negotiate their way through them, as is evident from the state of the road near actor Shah Rukh Khan's bungalow in Bandra.

Though the popular Cement Road at Bandstand does not witness much vehicular traffic, yet potholes have surfaced on it. Activists have alleged shoddy work by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC).

"The road was newly constructed, hardly two years ago, after an illegal ramp was removed. There are hardly any vehicles passing and during rains, there is no problem of drainage as the road is on an incline. There is no water accumulation, yet potholes have surfaced on the stretch," said Godfrey Pimenta, trustee, Watchdog Foundation.

Incidentally, the said road had earlier been in the news for the illegal ramp which was constructed by the actor for his vanity van. The ramp was demolished in February 2016 and Rs1,93,000 was recovered by the BMC from Khan for damaging the said Cement Road. The civic body had then reconstructed the stretch.

Pimenta also alleged the corporation used substandard quality of materials while repairing the road and have urged the corporation to carry out repairs. "The Mount Mary Novena and Fair will begin in the first week of September and the current state of the road will inconvenience devotees," he added.
