Sanjay Nirupam, 13 Corporators demand FIR against Ajoy Mehta
Sanjay Nirupam, President of the Mumbai Regional Congress Committee and thirteen Corporators on Wednesday submitted a letter to the Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone 1) demanding stringent legal action against the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation Commissioner Ajoy Mehta regarding his alleged involvement in Jogeshwari land reservation case.
Nirupam has alleged that Mehta and other BMC officials were directly responsible for the loss of 13,000 square metres of land worth Rs 500 crore at Jogeshwari. They suspect that there has been a huge payout and collusion between the owners and the Commissioner on land the reserved for hospital and housing for dis-housed in the development plan.
According to the letter submitted by Nirupam,“We demand that the scope of the FIR be enlarged to include the Municipal Commissioner Ajoy Mehta and other officials for their acts of omission and
The Development Plan department headed by the Commissioner deliberately failed to take over the land within stipulated time
commission which were directly responsible for the loss of plot of land measuring more than 13,000 square metre with an estimated cost of Rs 500 crore at Jogeshwari. The plot of land was under the acquisition from the private owners and reserved for hospital and housing for dis-housed in the development plan.
The Development Plan department headed by the Commissioner deliberately failed to take over the land within stipulated time.”
The letter further alleged that the appeal in the Supreme court was dismissed since no lawyer of BMC attended. The Commissioner's contention that the words “should challenge” were changed to “shouldn't challenge” on the file, further strengthens our suspicion that there is ‘more than meets the eye’ in the case. In fact, the Commissioner should have personally monitored the case and have been personally present given the high stakes involved. The role of the BMC Commissioner in the entire affair is highly suspected and needs to be thoroughly probed.
