An app to help you check doctor’s qualification

- SWAPNIL MISHRA

The Maharashtra Medical Council (MMC) has developed a mobile application, which not only provides details of doctors' educational qualifications and experience but also gives one the option to file complaints online. Two weeks ago, the council had launched a first-of-its kind mobile application, ‘MMC’, which is available on Google play store. The app is the council’s in-house design.

“Usually people have to struggle to file a complaint with the MMC, so, in order to bring transparency and reduce paperwork, we came up with this app. This will make it easy for people to file a complaint,” said a doctor.

MMC president Dr Shivkumar Utture said the patients have the right to check doctors' qualification

and experience, but currently lack the tools.

“Most times, hospitals upload doctors’ qualifications but it has been seen that fake documents are submitted to the hospital. So, we decided to set up this application to provide details at the click of a button,” he added.

Dr Utture said patients could also file a complaint against doctors if they were found indulging in malpractice or negligence. “So far, we have only received a couple of complaints as word of the app is yet to spread,” he said.
