Vinayak Mete demands amendment in Constitution for quota

-

Desperate to hog the limelight, Shiv Sangram leader and Bharatiya Janata Party's Member of Legislative Council (MLC) Vinayak Mete sighting announcement made by CM Devendra Fadnavis regarding Maratha quota claimed that it was his suggestions that CM has agreed to. Mete claimed credit over the slew of decisions announced by the government related to the Maratha quota stir.

Speaking to media persons on Monday, Mete stated the government should send a proposal to the Center calling for a constitutional amendment whereby reservation quota can be extended to the Maratha community.

When asked for his belated response after the government had already made the announcements and continued stir, the BJP MLC argued it was his organisation had raised the demand for reservation quota at a time when everyone was hesitating to take sides for the fear of being labelled castiest and that they might loose power. "Now after the agitation has spread like wild fire the same people are now trying to draw political mileage out of it," said Mete. He argued it was he who had made demands like convening special session of the state legislature to discuss the Maratha reservation demand.

Hee said,"There were several loopholes in the Government Resolution (GR) issued by the ministry of Higher and Technical Education implementing the slew of decisions. Many decisions like extending credit to unemployed youths for start ups, withdrawing minor cases filed on agitators related to other departments like Home, Finance and hence had suggested the GR be issued by the General Administration Department (GAD)." He further demanded inclusion of experts from the community as non-official members in the district level committees set up to implement the decisions.
