A heated exchange of words took a violent turn after Jain did the same to on-duty ward officer Narendra Chavhan (48) who had apparently pointed at him during the altercatio­n. Hurling abuses at the civic personnel, Jain caught hold of Chavhan’s finger and bent it awkwardly, leaving the terrified officer screaming in pain and a fracture

Based on Chavhan’s complaint, the Naya Nagar police registered a case under sections 333 (voluntaril­y causing grievous hurt to deter public servant from his duty), 353 (assault or criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of his duty), 504 (intentiona­l insult with intent to provoke breach of the peace) and 506 (punishment for criminal intimidati­on) of the Indian Penal Code. Almost a week after the incident, the accused was finally taken into custody on Saturday. Further investigat­ions were on.
