A heated exchange of words took a violent turn after Jain did the same to on-duty ward officer Narendra Chavhan (48) who had apparently pointed at him during the altercation. Hurling abuses at the civic personnel, Jain caught hold of Chavhan’s finger and bent it awkwardly, leaving the terrified officer screaming in pain and a fracture

Based on Chavhan’s complaint, the Naya Nagar police registered a case under sections 333 (voluntarily causing grievous hurt to deter public servant from his duty), 353 (assault or criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of his duty), 504 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of the peace) and 506 (punishment for criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code. Almost a week after the incident, the accused was finally taken into custody on Saturday. Further investigations were on.
