- STAFF REPORTER /

The Thane crime branch have arrested a 47-year-old man, Rajendra Prasad Tiwari, on Tuesday for the murder of a 29-year-old man, in Kopri. The daughter of the accused had been in a relationship with the deceased, Surendra Mishra, for seven years and the couple had planned to get married. But the accused had warned Mishra to keep away from his 21-year-old daughter.

Ravi Ashok Chaudhary, the woman’s uncle, and his accomplice, Bhaskar Naringkar,67, had been arrested last week. Police are on the lookout for four more accused who were involved in the murder and kidnapping of Mishra.

In a statement given to the police, the woman said Mishra had gone missing on July 14.

The woman told the police that Mishra had been looking for a house. On July 14, Mishra got a phone call while they both were travelling in a local train. According to Aviraj Khurade, Assistant Police Inspector, Thane crime branch, “The caller informed Mishra about a room for rent and asked him come to Teen Haat Naka, Thane. The woman got down at Mulund, while Mishra proceeded to Teen Haat Naka.” The two accused, Ravi and Bhaskar, along with four other wanted accused met Mishra and asked him to get into a car that took him to Kopri.

Surendra’s girlfriend kept calling him but since he did not respond, she called his elder brother. They launched a search, but failed to find him. A missing person complaint was registered with Kopri Police at Thane on July 14.

The accused, after thrashing Mishra to death, dumped his body on the railway tracks near Khadavli on July 15 morning.

The Kalyan Government Railway Police (GRP) found the body and registered an Accidental Death Record (ADR).
