Hindi has slowly become a world language: Akbar

The Minister of State for External Affairs, MJ Akbar, on Monday said Hindi has become a global language silently, which was witnessed by the entire world.

"When history changes, it changes with so much of silence that it does not make any sound. This is what happened with Hindi," he told the closing session of the 11th World Hindi Conference here.

"Many people had raised questions in the conference on when Hindi will become the world language. I can say with conviction that it has already become a global language silently," the minister said.

He said Hindi has taken inspiration from Sanskrit. Two thousand years ago, Sanskrit grew due to cultural power and today the use of Hindi is increasing through human power.

"In several countries, including that of West Asia, when we go to the airport, we can see Hindi TV shows and movies being played," Akbar said, adding that he had witnessed similar experience in

Even in Mauritius, the influence of Hindi is clearly visible, he said.

The three-day World Hindi Conference was inaugurated on August 18.

A special logo has been designed for the conference this year which depicts the national birds of India and Mauritius, peacock and dodo respectively.
