Kerala govt offers `10K ‘immediate aid’ for every flood-affected family

Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan announced immediate assistance of Rs 10,000 for every family affected by floods. This will be transferre­d through bank accounts. Currently, there are 3,91,494 families from 14 districts residing in relief camps, each of whom will get this amount.

The CM tweeted the total amount coming from the Chief Minister's Distress Relief Fund (CMDRF) would be Rs 242.73 crore. The remaining Rs 148.76 crore would be contribute­d by the State Disaster Management Authority (SDMA). In all, the state government will give Rs 391.49 crore to 3, 91,494 families, as immediate assistance. According to the Hindu Business Line, by August 22, the CMDRF had received around Rs 500 crore.

As per the twitter handle of the Kerala Chief Minister’s office (CMO), “Kerala Government announced Rs 10,000 for the flood victims as relief, CMDRF will contribute Rs 6,200 to this sum and SDMA will share the remaining Rs 3,800.”

To receive a relief amount of Rs 10,000, the flood victims should forward their account informatio­n to revenue officials. It was further stated that revenue and local self-government (LSG) department­s' officials will conduct on-site inspection­s and the report prepared on this basis will be used to evaluate the eligible compensati­on. It was also stated through a tweet that separate applicatio­ns are not required for the compensati­ons for losses incurred in the flood, including compensati­on for damages to houses.
