Third and last accused in railway job scam arrested

A 36-year-old man was arrested by the Mata Ramabai Ambedkar Marg police on Sunday for conning people by promising them jobs in the Railways Defence through special quota. An FIR was registered in this regard on August 20, on the instructio­ns of Union Railways Minister Piyush Goyal.

The accused, Kailash Rajendra Usankar, was for promising people jobs as Government Railway Police constables. He had collected Rs45 lakh from seven victims at Vasai and handed over the money to the other two accused, Rufus Dabre, 38, and Manjeet Singh Chilotre, 46. Dabre and Chilotre were arrested on Thursday.

According to Sanjay Kamble, senior police inspector, “Usankar is a middleman, who worked on the instructio­ns of Dabre and Chilotre. He was arrested from Manickpur in Vasai. He was paid Rs1 lakh per victim.”

Dabre, an insurance agent, who lives in Vasai and his accomplice Chilotre, a real-estate agent and mastermind of the scam, a resident of Malad, have been booked for cheating (Sections 419 and 420) of the Indian Penal Code. Dabre was arrested from Vasai while Chilotre was arrested from Delhi. The two accused got in touch ten months ago. During investigat­ion, it was revealed that the accused had duped seven victims across the country, collected Rs 45 lakh from them.

The investigat­ion was launched after Railways Minister Piyush Goyal had received an email from a complainan­t regarding the racket providing Grades C and D Rail Defence jobs. According to Abhishek Trimukhe, Deputy Commission­er of Police, Zone 1, “As per the instructio­ns from the Railway Ministry, a First Informatio­n Report (FIR) was registered by Pravin Gedam. During investigat­ion, it was found that Chilotre and Dabre had duped the victims to the tune of Rs 93 lakhs.”

Railways had issued an advertisem­ent for recruitmen­t of Grade C and D candidates by the Railways Defence Board. On the pretext of providing jobs under the special quota, Dabre deceived candidates and accepted Rs93 lakh.
