Kerala House sends 64 trucks of relief package

People in Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR) have been generously sending relief material to the ones affected by Kerala flood. This is proved by the fact that Kerala House, Vashi, so far has send around 64 trucks to the floodaffected state.

Kerala House, which comes directly under the supervision of Kerala tourism department, has become a collection centre.

“We have had around 1,200 associations and individuals’ who have come forward with relief material. This is not limited to Malayalis, but various other associations and individuals have come forward to help the people affected by flood. This shows the spirit of Mumbai,” said Kerala House’s manager, G Rajeev.

So far, Kerala House dispatched supplies through ship, train, air and road to distressed people.

Rajeev said, “Railways are allowing us to move our goods for free until end of this month. But road is more appropriate as we have to deliver products into areas that are not accessible by other mode of transports.”

In past few days, this community centre has dispatched three tonnes of medicines by air alone. These trucks with relief material have travelled to Kollam, Kannur, Trivandrum, Kozhikode, Chalakudy, Mala and to name a few.

Since August 15th, Kerala House have been sending around three trucks of relief materials every alternate day to Kerala. Now, it has slowed down but Rajeev said still there are people who are contributing relief materials. \He added, “The next truck will go on Thursday. We are officially going to stop taking relief material after August 30.” However, they will continue accepting donations in form of cheque and demand draft.

“We don’t accept cash,” he added. But there are people who are coming with cash and Kerala house has to turn them down.
