Minor allegedly raped on school premises

-

MUMBAI: Charkop police have registered a case under relevant sections of Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act and Indian Penal Code, for the alleged rape of a standard six student by an unknown person. The incident came to light after the victim started experiencing stomach aches and told her parents of the incident. According to police sources, the incident took place a few days earlier, and the girl told her parents only after she complained of bodily pain. After the parents asked her repeatedly what had gone wrong, she said an unknown man touched her private parts and raped her in the school premises. Realising the intensity of the crime, the parents immediately approached the police and registered a complaint. After the complaint was registered, the police along with the parents went to the Kandivali-based school to identify the exact place of incidence and recover the CCTV footage of the area.

A police official said, "Since the case is related to a minor girl and POCSO has been applied, the identity of the victim is kept hidden. The police are probing the case, and the accused will be sent behind bars soon." On Thursday, a similar case was registered at Vashi police station, in which a nine-year-old girl was allegedly raped by an unknown man on Tuesday before she sat in a private vehicle that plied her home daily. The police are yet to identify the accused and make subsequent arrests.
