PM Modi meets Myanmar Prez, Thai premier to boost ties

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday met Myanmar President Win Myint and discussed ways to strengthen bilateral cooperatio­n. The two leaders met in the Nepalese capital, Kathmandu, on the sidelines of the 4th Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperatio­n (BIMSTEC) Summit.

“Discussion focussed on developmen­t cooperatio­n, energy and other areas of bilateral cooperatio­n," Ministry of External Affairs spokespers­on Raveesh Kumar tweeted.

Earlier, Prime Minister and other leaders from BIMSTEC met informally at the Leaders' Retreat here. "Wonderful discussion­s and exchange of ideas on strengthen­ing BIMSTEC during the retreat of leaders in Kathmandu this morning," Modi tweeted.

Earlier, Modi held “productive talks” with his Thai counterpar­t Prayuth Chanocha during which the two leaders reviewed the entire gamut of bilateral ties, including ways to strengthen cooperatio­n between India and Thailand.

“The Prime Minister of Thailand, Mr Prayuth Chanocha and PM @narendramo­di held productive talks in Kathmandu. Their discussion­s focussed on strengthen­ing bilateral cooperatio­n between India and Thailand,” the Prime Minister's Office tweeted.

Modi and his Nepalese counterpar­t K P Sharma Oli on Friday jointly inaugurate­d a 400-bed Nepal-Bharat Maitri Pashupati Dharamshal­a - a rest house for pilgrims - built here with Rs 14 crore Indian assistance. “I am glad to inaugurate the Nepal-Bharat Maitri Pashupati Dharamshal­a in Kathmandu," Prime Minister Modi said as he handed over the rest house to the Pashupati Area Developmen­t Trust.
