Rs 45,000 salary hike for Guj MLA
Unmindful of the skyrocketing fuel prices and the plummeting rupee, which has sent prices soaring, the legislators of Gujarat used a truncated two day Vidhan Sabha session to unanimously pass a Bill giving themselves a salary hike of Rs 45,000,a month with a retrospective 18 month back-dating. Result: The monthly salary of the legislators of Gujarat will increase from the existing Rs 70,727 to Rs 1.16 lakhs - a rise of about 64 per cent. It will impose an extra burden of Rs 10 crore annually on the state exchequer.
Unmindful of the skyrocketing fuel prices and the plummeting rupee sending prices soaring, the legislators of Gujarat used a truncated two day Vidhan Sabha session to unanimously pass a Bill giving themselves a salary hike of Rs 45,000 a month.
“The salaries of legislators in Maharashtra, Uttarakhand, Telegana and Jharkhand are much higher than Gujarat,” said minister of state for parliamentary Affairs, Pradipsinh Jadeja while introducing the Salaries and allowances of Members, Speaker and Deputy Speaker of the Gujarat Assembly, Ministers and Leader of Opposition Laws (Amendment) Bill 2018 on Wednesday.
The Congress Opposition which had a day earlier staged a dramatic protest in the state capital, courting arrest demanding waiver of farm loans, had no problems in joining the ruling party in the massive increase of their own salaries.
The monthly salary of the legislators of Gujarat will stand to be increased from the existing Rs 70,727 to Rs 1.16 lakhs, a rise of about 64 per cent, while those of the ministers, Assembly Speaker, deputy speaker and leader of the Opposition will go up to Rs 1.32 lakh from Rs 86,000, an increase of about 54 per cent.
The revised salaries will come into retrospective effect from February 2017, with a disbursal of Rs 6 crore and this new structure will impose an extra burden of Rs 10 crore annual on the state exchequer.
