IndiGo flight suffers tyre burst, all passengers safe

MUMBAI: One of the two nose-wheel tyres of a Mumbai-Ahmedabad IndiGo flight burst during takeoff from Mumbai airport on Wednesday evening. The flight landed safely at Ahmedabad airport at 7.21pm, with 185 passengers on board. The pilots asked for an emergency landing at Ahmedabad airport, after which it was stuck on the runway for a while. Later, it was parked at Ahmedabad airport for a detailed inspection.

An inspection revealed a 'tyre decapping with full tyre pressure intact' and the aircraft was towed to the parking bay. The wheel was replaced and the aircraft will now be cleared for future flights. As per Indigo Airlines' statement, there will be no impact on operations.

An Airports Authority of India (AAI) official said, "IndiGo flight 6E361, from Mumbai to Ahmedabad, reported tyre burst while taking off from Mumbai airport Wednesday evening. The pilot had requested emergency landing at Ahmedabad, which was immediately approved by Ahmedabad ATC."

The airline spokersperson said in a press statement, "An IndiGo aircraft operated 6E361 from Mumbai-Ahmedabad. After arrival at Ahmedabad, a tyre decapping with full tyre pressure intact was observed on the aircraft. The aircraft is at the parking bay and the wheel is being replaced. The aircraft will be cleared for further flight and there shall be no impact on the operations."
