42 booked for riding without helmets
MUMBAI: 42 persons have been booked for riding without a helmet and eight accused were arrested for rash and negligent driving by the Marine Drive police on Monday morning during a three hour nakabandi. The nakabandi was carried out from 4:15 am to 7:15 am near Pransukhlal Mafatlal Hindu swimming bath and boat club trust and near B D Somani chowk at Marine Drive. According to Vilas Gangwane, senior police inspector, Marine Drive police said, “42 persons were booked for riding without helmet while eight persons have been arrested for rash and negligent driving. Total 53 offences have been registered which includes offences of noise pollution and other traffic violations.” The accused arrested for rash and negligent driving are Faizan Obaid Rehman Shaikh (25), Ayub Fakir Mohammed Shaikh (25), Tanveer Ahmed Shaikh (25), Sohail Hassan Shaikh (19), Akshay Mangesh Dandwate (22), Deven Ramesh Rathod (20), Venkatesh Balkrishna Tumkunta (20) and Javed Khan (19) have been arrested. They have been arrested for rash driving or riding on a public way (Section 279) and act endangering life or personal safety of others (Section 336) of the Indian Penal Code. Faizan is a resident of Punawali chawl, Kalyanwadi at Dharavi. Ayub is a resident of Kumbharwada, Dharavi.Tanveer is a resident of Janabai chawl at Moti road, Mahim. Sohail is a resident of transit camp at Sion-Koliwada. Akshay is a resident of Sahyog cooperative society at Mankhurd while Deven is a resident of Sai Baba Nagar at Borivali. Venkatesh is a resident of the Maharashtra Housing Area Development Authority (MHADA) colony at Chembur while Javed is a resident of Vashi.
