Modi launches Ayushman Bharat in Ranchi

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday launched Ayushman Bharat-Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojna (ABPMJAY) in Ranchi. Modi who also launched 10 wellness centres in Jharkhand and laid the foundation stones of medical colleges in Chaibasa and Koderma, said the scheme was a step towards serving the poor people of the country.

“Today the focus of the entire nation is on Ranchi. In over 400 districts of the country, a similar event is taking place. Even the last person standing should get better health facility. More than 50 crore people will get insurance up to Rs 5 lakh. This is the world’s first such scheme. No other country has a scheme like this. The number of people who are to benefit from this is almost equal to the population of the entire European Union,” Modi said launching the scheme.

The scheme was launched simultaneo­usly in 476 districts across the country for the benefit 10.74 crore families. Modi described Ayushman Bharat as a miracle and assured beneficiar­ies that the scheme would take care of them in case of any misfortune. “Poverty will not be an obstruct in getting medical treatment now; the poor will also be able to get while proper treatment without stressing over money. Poor people have been provided with health insurance of Rs 5 lakh across the country. Today, the world’s largest health insurance scheme is being launched; this plan will benefit the population of about 50 crore people of the country. Now people will not have to spend on treatment but the government will provide it for free,” he said.

The Prime Minister has also laid the foundation stone of two medical colleges. Even after 70 years of independen­ce, Jharkhand had only three medical colleges with capacity to 350 students. But in the last four years, Jharkhand has got 5 new medical colleges. After that there will be a total of 1200 seats. He said that today the Prime Minister Jan Arogya Yojana has started under the Ayushman scheme. Though people are calling it with different name but for me it is the service to the poor.
