In day of protests, Cong targets Nana Patekar, petrol rate hike
In Mumbai and Maharashtra, Thursday was the day of the Congress party, as its women's wing protested at the Oshiwara police station, demanding the arrest of actor Nana Patekar, after actress Tanushree Dutta filed a formal complaint with the police station late on Wednesday.
Youth Congress members blackened posters of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to protest the hike in petrol prices across the state. Dr Priyatama Sawant, president of the South Central Mumbai district of Mumbai women's wing has warned of action against Patekar and has written to the Maharashtra State Women's Commission.
As Dutta filed a First Information Report (FIR) with the police, women party workers staged a protest before the Oshiwara police station on Thursday.
“The protest will continue till police arrest Patekar in the Dutta case,” said Sawant, adding, the state government should instruct police to take strict action against the actor. On the other hand, Satyajeet Tambe, the newly elected president of the Maharashtra State Youth Congress, organised a statewide stir against the Modi government. In his home town, Sangamner in Ahmednagar district, he led a protest.
He addressed a gathering of youth protesters who raised slogans against the Bharatiya Janata Party government and later on, blackened posters of Modi. Similar protests were held in Mumbai and other cities.
