Shakti Mills rape convict assaulted by rival gang

- STAFF REPORTER /

Akash Jadhav, 22, a former convict in the Shakti Mills gang rape case, was attacked by three members of a local gang early on Monday.

Jadhav was attacked with a bamboo by three miscreants near Trimurti Mandir at Agripada on Monday, at 3.45 am. Jadhav was accompanied by his friend Akash Ramesh Gadkari, 25. Police are suspecting that he was attacked by Akash Kale, 28, Danish Khan, 26, and another unidentified person, all belonging to a local gang. The police said that a fight between Kale and Jadhav is the reason for the attack. He was rushed to BYL Nair Hospital by his friend, where he is presently under treatment.

Savlaram Agavane, senior police inspector, Agripada Police said, "Jadhav was attacked by the three gang members to seek revenge. We are yet to identify the third accused. A First Information Report (FIR) has been registered."

An FIR has been registered for attempt to murder (Section 307), criminal intimidation (section 506 (2)), voluntarily causing grievous hurt (Section 323), intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of peace (Section 504) and common intention (Section 34) of the Indian Penal Code.

Jadhav is reportedly a member of the 'Bombay Bhai' gang on WhatsApp. He and his friend Amit Bhatt, 25, had started the group to brainwash the youth to join them, police said.

Jadhav is a habitual offender who was arrested for the fourth time for criminal offences by NM Joshi Marg and Agripada Police. He is a resident of Bhandup. He was sent to Nashik borstal school and released in July 2017. He, however, returned to his life of crime and since September 2017, there have been four cases registered against him.
