Speeding truck mows down 33-year-old biker at Deonar

KILLER ROADS CLAIM TWO LIVES IN CITY

A 33-year-old biker was mowed down by a truck at Deonar on Ghatkopar-Mankhurd Link road on Tuesday morning due to speeding.

According to police, the accident occurred at 9am on Tuesday. The accused, Imtiaz Pasha Nazir Ahmed (32) was behind the wheel of the speeding truck when he lost control and ran over the biker. The deceased, Vaibhav Vitthal Jangam (33) was on his way from Deonar to Ghatkopar at the time of the mishap. When the truck driver tried to flee the spot, he was intercepte­d at Deonar and later arrested by the police. The police rushed Vaibhav to Shatabdi Hospital at Govandi where he was declared dead on arrival, said the police.

Dattatray Kadam, senior inspector, Deonar police, said, “The accused Imtiaz Ahmed was arrested on Tuesday afternoon. The accident was captured in the CCTV cameras. We recorded the statement of Vaibhav’s father Vithhal Mahadev Jangam. Ahmed was arrested on Tuesday.”

Ahmed has been booked and arrested for causing death by negligence (Section 304 (A)), rash driving or riding on a public way (Section 279), causing hurt by act endangerin­g life or personal safety of others (Section 337) of the Indian Penal Code, duty of driver (Section 134 (ab)) and driving dangerousl­y (Section 184) of the Motor Vehicle Act.

Jangam, a resident of Vashi at Navi Mumbai, stayed along with his parents at Sector 3. He worked at an Andheri company.
