Minor falls to death from Tardeo high-rise

- STAFF REPORTER

A 16-year-old fell to death from the 23rd floor of a Tardeo high-rise, Imperial Towers, on Saturday. The 60storied twin towers are one of the tallest completed buildings in the country. The teen was found lying in a pool of blood at 2am by the society watchman, after which police were informed.

Police are yet to establish how she fell. Police are yet to get hold of her mobile phone, which continues to be with her parents. Tardeo Police have registered an Accidental Death Report (ADR) and are investigating the matter.

The teen, a Class 10 student at Hill Springs International School, had gone out with her friends on Friday night and returned around midnight, police said. Based on CCTV footage acquired from the building's lobby, police said she was walking unsteadily. Around 2am, the watchman of the building heard a loud thud.

When he began searching the building premises, he discovered the girl's body on the lawn, lying in a pool of blood. The watchman immediately alerted Tardeo Police and informed some residents, who in turn, informed the girl's family and they rushed her to Nair Hospital, where she was declared brought dead.

A source close to the girl's family said, she had gone to visit her friend in Pedder Road and returned at 11.45pm on Friday. The source said, "At the time of the incident, the girl's mother and younger brother were asleep and so was the house help. The family did not even know what had happened and were informed by the watchman and a few neighbours about the incident. Her mother is in a state of shock."

The girl's father, a jeweller, was out of town for work when the incident took place. Sanjay Surve, senior police inspector of Tardeo police station said, "We are yet to establish how the teenager fell from the balcony. Whether the girl jumped to death or fell accidentally is still unclear, as the balcony does not have a grille. Also, we have not recovered any suicide note from the spot."

Police are scrutinising the CCTV footage to ascertain the girl's movements and will also question the friends and family of the deceased to ascertain the reason for the extreme step.
