Negotiations on: Ola, Uber strike continues

Even after the second round of talks with the cab aggregator firms, the app-based cab drivers are likely to continue strike for the tenth day today after they were unable to meet the transport commissioner on Tuesday.

“We will take a call on withdrawing stir only after all our demands are well accepted and given in writing in front of the transport chief. Else the strike could continue on Wednesday,” said Sunil Borkar, Secretary, Maharashtra Rajya Rashtriya Kamgar Sangh.

The present fare structure of mobile aggregators is such that there is no clarity on base fare. While the subsequent per kilometer fare, on an average, ranges from Rs 8, Rs 12, Rs 16 depending on the vehicle --- regular cars, sedans, or hatchbacks.

“We demand for subsequent fare per km of Rs 12, Rs 15 and Rs 19 has been accepted by the companies,” said Prashant Sarvedekar, head of Ola Uber Unit, MRRKS. The unions had demanded Rs 18, Rs 20 and Rs 23 respectively.

Uber spokesperson issued a statement, “We continue to engage with all relevant stakeholders with a view to restore services to the people and city of Mumbai at the earliest. We have always been and continue to be committed to sustainable driver earnings and to discuss all other issues raised by the driver partners. We look to the support of law enforcement in helping driver partners get back behind the wheel without fear of intimidation and assault.”
